Nathalia Gadelha was only 17 when she earned her private pilot’s license while attending West Boca Raton High School in Florida.
She couldn’t legally drive a car on her own yet, but she could fly an airplane.
It was an accomplishment that made her proud.
âI definitely do brag because people say, âOh, you canât drive,â and Iâm like, âYeah, but I can fly,ââ she told a local television station in 2023.
Three years later, Nathalia had earned additional aviation qualifications and was pursuing the career she had dreamed about since she was a teenager.
On Sunday, November 1, tragedy struck.
Nathalia was serving as co-pilot aboard a Learjet 60 traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when the aircraft plunged toward the ground and crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida.
Her mother, Camila, and her stepfather confirmed her identity to the New York Post.
The young pilot had previously shared photographs celebrating her aviation achievements, including a March 2026 post expressing gratitude to God after reaching another milestone.
Her dream was to become a commercial airline pilot.
She was just beginning her adult life, building the future she had worked toward since high school.
Now, her family is mourning a young woman whose determination had already taken her into the skies.
Federal investigators are working to determine what caused the aircraft to crash.
Our condolences go out to Nathalia’s family and everyone affected by this tragedy.
